Western Suburbs Community and Unions Coalition

The Western Suburbs Community and Unions Coalition is a grass roots organisation of local workers, unionists, community members and groups building a broad based community and unions campaign in the west to oppose the draconian IR laws. Our members come from Footscray, Altona, Williamstown, Werribee, Yarraville, Sunshine, Newport, Laverton, Hoppers Crossing and Melton.

We organise a wide range of activities in the west to inform, organise and mobilise many diverse sections in the community to oppose the IR laws.

ACTIVITIES
  • IR Community Information Stalls at shopping centres, festivals, schools, community events
  • Organising Petitions
  • Provide Information to the local community on the IR laws - public meetings, talks
  • Supporting unions and workers against whom the draconian IR laws are being used
  • Collecting Information on effects of IR laws on the community, local workers and families
  • Supporting workers and communities in struggle to defend and improve their working and family lives
  • Campaigning with unions to protect manufacturing industry and jobs
  • Collecting local history of workers' and communities' struggles
