As part of a grand restructuring process of mail delivery Australia Post intends to shut down three mail centres in the western suburbs of Melbourne. Not only will this mean a reduction of services in the western suburbs but an attack on working conditions of Australia Post employees. The proposed new "super centre" at Altona will be staffed by many Delivery Only (DODO's) posties who will only be allocated 4 hour shifts and received no penalty rates, a reduction of 15%.

The posties union the CWU division of CEPU are requesting a that the wider union movement and the community show their support of decent services and full time employment. Please attend and proudly bring your union banners.

We had another successful street stall last Saturday, this time, at the corner of Brunswick St and Johnston St, Fitzroy. We are gathering at the corner of Smith St. and Johnston St, Collingwood at 12 NOON on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2007 to again hand out leaflets and get petitions signed. Please come and assist if you can.

Australia Post have advertised for 4 hour workers in Collingwood through Mission Australia Ph:- 8615 2239. If you know any activists interested in ringing.

Save Our Posties

Australia Post wants to close the Fitzroy Mail Centre. more.

Actions to Save our Posties will include
  • Put banners, placards & signs 'Save Our Posties' in windows, gardens and balconies throughout Fitzroy, Collingwood & Abbotsford (So far, they are up in Hoddle, Johnston, Bath, Leicester Sts & the Council has agreed to put them up on Fitzroy & Collingwood Town Halls
  • Have a post-card campaign. We will letterbox these as soon as they are printed.
  • Hold a public meeting on Thursday September 27 at Fitzroy Town Hall at 7pm.
  • Hold street stalls & walk through the shopping centres starting this Saturday, August 25 at 12 noon outside Safeway, Smith Street, Collingwood.
The union would appreciate support with all of the above
