|
Saturday 11am
27th January Sri Lanka Consulate 8 Sutton Place Box Hill North The Sri Lanka Consul in Melbourne has been openly supporting his government's policy of attacking socialists and all progressives who oppose a war in that country. Melbourne has been used as a base for cowardly death threat phone calls to Siri. Protest against Sri Lanka government and terrorist threats to kill United Socialist Party leader Siri. A web site has listed 27 people to be assassinated as 'traitors' to Sinhalese interests - with Siri being in the No. 1 target. Say no to a drift towards war in Sri Lanka and a killing off of anti-war, progressive leaders and activists. Background The United Socialist Party (USP) is the largest socialist party in Sri Lanka and organsies workers and urban poor from all ethnic backgrounds - Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim. It is actively opposed to the drift towards civil war in that country and works with other parties in the anti-war coalition, the United People's Movement (UPM). more info: need transport ring 6399111 | bbc article | Yarra Councillor Stephen Jolly 0433113421 |
