download leaflet

Why Blockade Botany Cranes:
  • The company employs a former Liberal Party staff-member who is leading the attack on workers rights and safety conditions.
  • The company's union delegate, Barry Hemsworth, has been victimised and sacked using Howard's new anti-worker laws. Barry is on the State Executive of the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union. He was sacked for "insubordination" - i.e. standing up for his fellow workers' rights.
  • No unfair dismissal means Barry has few remedies for his unfair treatment - this is why we need to act!
  • This company is compromising the safety of their staff and undermining their rights at work. If w do not stand up and defend Barry and his workmates, no one will!

Library workers to attend Moonee Valley Council meeting

Keep the pressure on the CEO

Mooney Valley Council meeting
6pm Tuesday
19 September
The Civic Centre
Crn Kellaway Ave & Mt Alexander Rd

We ask you all to come to the council meeting at put pressure on the CEO and show your support for the library workers struggle to maintain existing conditions. It's time we all worked together to resist this attack on workers entitlements.

Download and distribute: Library workers leaflet

Send a protest email

WorkChoices Moonee Vally style!
Library workers are management's latest target at Moonee Valley City Council. CEO Peter Black and Ed Small are attacking existing conditions for new library staff. Management are going after library workers 35 hour week. The 35 hour week compensates staff for working evenings and Saturday mornings without penalty rates. Council are employing new staff on a 38 hour week and plan to work them outside the normal spread of hours without penalty rates!

This means new staff will have to work longer hours that will fall outside of the normal spread of hours without penalty rates.

Moonee Valley City Council Management plan to do this by "agreement" with new staff. But they are using Howard's definition of "agreement" that is – if new staff want a job or existing staff want a promotion they have to "agree" to lower conditions than the other staff – if they don't "agree" to be disadvantaged they don't get the job! That's the choice, NO Choice!

MVCC Library workers need you're support to send a strong message to MVCC management, that they can't get away with this.

Support the locked out distribution workers in NZ

4-6pm Wednesday
September 13th
Safeway / Big W
crn Lonsdale & Swanston Sts
Melbourne
Please come along and bring union & community flags & banners.

WOOLWORTHS - THE LOW PAY PEOPLE
Woolworths Australia own outlets such as Safeway and Big W. In New Zealand they own a company called Progressive Enterprises. Over 500 Progressive employees in Auckland, Palmerston North and Christchurch Distribution Centres have been locked out of their workplaces by Woolworths until they agree to abandon their claim for a national collective agreement.

The lockout follows the indefinite suspension of workers after they commenced a 48hour strike over two weeks ago. The workers are claiming a measly 8% wage increase and allowance parity between the four distribution centres.

Woolworths have decided to take on these workers in an attempt to keep their pay at poverty levels. Say no poverty wages in retail and distribution. Say no to greedy employers attacking our right to collectively bargain.

Support the locked out workers by not shopping at any Woolworths outlets.
Woolworths Australia own brands including Safeway, Food For Less, Dick Smith Electronics and PowerHouse, Tandy, Woolworths Liquor, BWS, First Estate, Dan Murphy’s, Plus Petrol, BIG W, Woolworths Ezy Banking, Woolworths HomeShop and GreenGrocer.

Also send a message to the Progressive Enterprises Managing Director, Marty Hamnett. Tell him you will not be shopping at places owned by Woolworths. marty.hamnett@progressive.co.nz

Many of the sacked Toyota workers have been on strike since 2001 demanding their jobs back and the right to a collective agreement. On August 16, 2006, police brutally attacked a demonstration by 200 Toyota workers.
