Rally to defend library workers conditions
|
Staff Rally
12-2pm Wednesday 16 August Outside the Civic Centre Crn Kellaway Ave & Mt Alexander Rd Community Rally 20 August 1-3pm Sunday Outside Sam Merrifield Library 762 Mount Alexander Rd Mooney Ponds Download and distribute: Library workers leaflet Send a protest email WorkChoices Moonee Vally style! Library workers are management's latest target at Moonee Valley City Council. CEO Peter Black and Ed Small are attacking existing conditions for new library staff. Management are going after library workers 35 hour week. The 35 hour week compensates staff for working evenings and Saturday mornings without penalty rates. Council are employing new staff on a 38 hour week and plan to work them outside the normal spread of hours without penalty rates! This means new staff will have to work longer hours that will fall outside of the normal spread of hours without penalty rates. Moonee Valley City Council Management plan to do this by "agreement" with new staff. But they are using Howard's definition of "agreement" that is – if new staff want a job or existing staff want a promotion they have to "agree" to lower conditions than the other staff – if they don't "agree" to be disadvantaged they don't get the job! That's the choice, NO Choice! MVCC Library workers need you're support to send a strong message to MVCC management, that they can't get away with this. We ask you all to come to our community rally and show your support for the library workers struggle to maintain existing conditions. Lets all call on Council to honour the EBA and Award. It's time we all worked together to resist this attack on workers entitlements. Please show your support by attending the community rally. more info: ASU Organisers, Michelle Jackson 0418 539 054 or Rebecca Coyle 0419 508 262. |
