Cultural History of the Whitlam Period

Tuesday September 12th
5.30pm for a 6.00pm start, 7.00 finish
Trades Hall
Crn Victoria & Lygon Sts
Carlton – Meet at the Bookshop

Followed by dinner for those interested

Nathan Hollier
“From Hope to Illusion? A Literary and Cultural History of the Whitlam Period”

Nathan’s thesis sets out to answer the question
‘What were the cultural causes of the defeat of the Whitlam government and the rise to dominance of neo-classical liberal public policy?’

He argues that the major cultural factor facilitating the rise of neo-liberal public policy in Australia was a broad-based process of Americanisation of Australian culture.

As always, any help with publicising this event would be greatly appreciated.
