Building local campaign for the National Day of Community Protest against the IR laws on 15th November.

It's time to build a powerful and broad people's movement to oppose the draconian IR laws. Organise to stop the assault on rights and conditions of workers, families and communities.

The Western Suburbs Unions and Community Coalition is organising a range of activities to inform and mobilise the local community and workers for the Tuesday, 15th November rally. These include community Information stalls in local shopping centres and leaflet handouts at main railway stations in the west. See details below.

A WSUCC contingent will also be marching together behind our banner on 15th November. Local residents and workers not participating with a union are encouraged to travel with the WSUCC contingent. We will meet at 8.55am, Platform No. 1, Footscray Station, to travel on the 9.01am train to Flinders street.

1. Information Stalls and leaflet hand outs at local shopping centres.

Next Community Information Stall: Sunday, 9 October, 8.00 am - 2.00 pm. Laverton Market, Leakes Road, Laverton. Mel.279, F8. The brightly decorated stall (van) will be in the open area of the market. Look out for a van and table decorated with posters and orange balloons. Build solidarity in action - help on the stall and with the leafleting. Meet members of the group - fellow unionists and community members.

WSUCC Information Stalls will also be held at the following local shopping centres:

Saturday 22 October Yarraville 8.00 am – 1.00 pm

Saturday 5th November Footscray Mall 8.00 am - 1.00 pm
Williamstown 8.00 am - 1.00 pm
Newport 8 .00 am - 1.00 pm

Please put yourself down on a roster at one of the above stalls, even half an hour will help.

FILM NIGHT
"The Wobblies" A film by Deborah Shaffer and Stewart Bird .

7pm Monday
27 November
Northcote Library Meeting Room
Separation St
Northocote

From 1905 to World War I, members of the Industrial Workers of the World, nicknamed The Wobblies, traveled from coast to coast with "Solidarity" as their slogan and the goal of organizing unskilled workers into "One Big Union." They contributed enormously to create a spirit of mutual aid, of no compromise, of direct action, of grass roots movement amongst the working class.

The film integrates the songs of the period with photographs, newsreel footage, and contemporary interviews with remaining IWW members. Careful documentation of the cultural, political, labor and legal events of the time make this work an invaluable record of an unforgettable era of American labour history and working class struggle . (A must see)

Light refreshments provided after film
