FILM NIGHT "The Wobblies" A film by Deborah Shaffer and Stewart Bird . 7pm Monday 27 November Northcote Library Meeting Room Separation St Northocote From 1905 to World War I, members of the Industrial Workers of the World, nicknamed The Wobblies, traveled from coast to coast with "Solidarity" as their slogan and the goal of organizing unskilled workers into "One Big Union." They contributed enormously to create a spirit of mutual aid, of no compromise, of direct action, of grass roots movement amongst the working class. The film integrates the songs of the period with photographs, newsreel footage, and contemporary interviews with remaining IWW members. Careful documentation of the cultural, political, labor and legal events of the time make this work an invaluable record of an unforgettable era of American labour history and working class struggle .
